Words of Wisdom on Balance to the Overwhelmed Woman

“If you don’t ever stop to ask yourself what really matters to you, you’ll unconsciously organize your life around filling it with the things that matter the most to your parents or your partner or the things that matter most to our culture as a whole. And you’ll never actually get the chance to live your own life. - The book “Do Less” by @katenorthrup

When I read this a huge wave washed over me - WOW, I had never thought of my life in this way. I have continued to become more conscious of what I want for my life, but I still see where I can easily fill my days with what others want or what I think I should be doing. So what she recommended we do is write out what really matters most. So here is what came up for me:

My relationship with God - Greater Power

My relationship with myself, my body, my mental health

My relationship with my husband

My relationship with my family and friends

My relationship with our earth, communities and world

My relationship with my business and the work I do with women

I had a light bulb moment when I looked at this list - A big reason I often feel like I am not doing enough is that some of the things that mattered most to me were out of order. When I create my day to be in reflection of this list in the order of what matters most, and make decisions based on this, I feel totally in alignment. And when the overwhelm creeps in I get to go back to the list and ask myself “How important is this thing I am obsessing about anyways?” Often it is not even on my list of priorities or I can see where I have made it more important than the things top on my list.

It has felt so freeing knowing if it doesn’t matter most to me I can let it go or stop beating myself up for it and get back into alignment in any moment.

I’d love to know what matters most to you?
