How to Be Mindful of Where we Give Our Time
Being this year has taken a lot more emotionally, physically and mentally to do normal day to day things; it is so important to be extra mindful where we are giving our time and energy.
If you imagine a cup right now; How full is your cup?
For me this is such a powerful visual; I can really tune into where I need to say no, or up the self care or ask for support.
If I am giving from an empty or half full cup I often experience burnout, get annoyed and resentful.
Remembering I need to keep my cup full, so I am giving from the overflow, is a day to day practice. And the goal is not that I won’t ever feel that my cup is getting empty; it is more the awareness of “oh I need to pause and that I know what to do to take care of myself to fill back up.” This is the win and growth!
For me filling my cup up looks like;
Time with God
Moving and fueling my body
Time in nature
Alone time
Connecting with community
SLEEP
My mind will often want to make it feel way more complicated for how to fill my cup up, “It can’t be that simple.” You need to read this book, listen to this podcast and take this class, journal 5 min OR do everything on your list or just don’t bother doing anything (The all or nothing - anyone relate?) Then I just feel overwhelmed and it will feel easier to just keep going than slowing down and taking care of myself.
That’s why it is so important to know - what fills your cup back up? And how does it feel to give from the overflow vs an empty cup?
